Furniture and Home Decor YOU Loved in 2020

During this time of year, I always like to take some time to look back at the last year for Mix & Match Design Co. And man, it’s been a wild one! It feels like this was the year we all had to take a hard look at just about everything in our lives, and this little business was no exception.

To be honest, there were times when I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be, but I’m grateful for all the good things that did happen. A big thanks to my e-design clients who trusted me with their homes, readers of the blog who purchased pieces through my links and recommendations (those earn a small commission that goes to supporting Mix & Match!), and those who simply support me through following along, commenting on Instagram, and sharing my posts. Y’all are the best!

As I look forward into 2021, I’m feeling really excited and hopeful about what’s in store (yay!). I’ll share more about what’s coming down the pipe in another post, but today we’re looking back, and it’s all about what you loved in 2020.

I love diving into the backend analytics of what the most popular pieces of furniture and decor were throughout the year. It’s so interesting to see what “hits” because you really don’t know until you publish them (even if you think it’s going to be good, helpful, interesting, etc.)

So without further ado, here are the top 13 pieces of furniture and home decor you loved this year.

(P.S. Why 13? Well, I was shooting for 10 as I was digging into my analytics, but there were a few extras that I didn’t want to leave out because they were good ones. So, we have 13 instead!)

There were definitely a few trends I noticed - light fixtures, bar stools, and rugs were all very popular! There were a few well-read posts that triggered that I think, and what that tells me is that you all are on the hunt for items in those three categories more than others. Would you agree?

Here’s a row-by-row breakdown of these favorites. The title for each one is also the link to the source, so you can shop the post as well.

1. Modern Long Arm Plug-In Sconce

This is probably one of my all-time favorite sconces, but what you might not know is that it’s part of a larger collection! The sconces come in different sizes, number of “heads,” and finish combinations. Keep an eye out for a 20% off sale to get the best deal on these.

2. Classic Swing Arm Sconce

These sconces are so versatile - I can see them working well in a living room or bedroom, or even mounted above a sideboard or larger console. They shades give them a larger profile, so just keep that in mind as you decide where to place them.

3. Brass 3-Light Vanity Fixture

You really can’t go wrong with this vanity light - its clean lines work well in modern to transitional style bathrooms. It also comes in a two-light and four-light version in several metal finishes.

4. Globe Plug-In Sconce

If you’re looking for something a little bit different, try out a globe sconce. I love the idea of these in a bedroom as lights above a nightstand. And since they’re plug in, there’s no electrician needed to wire them up!

5. Conical Drum Shade Semi-Flush Mount

Good semi-flush mount light fixtures can be hard to find and this one checks all the boxes for me: stylish, a good level of brightness, a classic silhouette, and reasonably priced. The lines of the drum shade + metal “frame” are just a stunning combo.

6. Peg Rail with Shelf

This one surprised me a little bit! I wrote a post about shaker peg rails a little while back and it was one of those posts that took off more than I expected! These organizational workhorses are awesome for entryways, laundry rooms, bathrooms, and more. Read more about these popular functional-meets-beautiful rails over in this post.

7. Modern Traditional Wall Sconce

A final sconce for you! The post where I originally shared these got super popular on Pinterest this year - apparently y’all love plug-in sconces! This one is another “go-anywhere” style and it also comes in an option with a rattan shade, which is super cute for a coastal-influenced home.

8. Industrial Modern Faux Leather Counter Stools

Bar stools were certainly popular around here as well, and I really love these (and the next ones below) a lot. The faux leather seat offers comfort and cleanability - both important in a kitchen. I like that these have a little bit of a masculine vibe to them as well.

9. Bistro Style Counter Stool

Then in a totally different style, these Parisian bistro-inspired stools make for a fun addition in a kitchen. The woven seat comes in several different color combos ranging from subtle to saturated. These can also be used outside in a covered area, which is a great perk!

10. Round Storage Coffee Table Ottoman

Beauty meets function in this ottoman. The removable top reveals a storage compartment within the upholstered base (and who doesn’t need more storage!) that’s perfect for blankets or kid toys. There are a couple of quick-ship options for this piece, or you can choose from a lot of different fabrics to create a more custom piece for your home.

11. Tribal Medallion Fringe Rug

Y’all clearly love vintage-style rugs as much as I do! While the real thing is wonderful, if you can’t find the perfect one-of-a-kind rug, these are some great options to mimic the look. This one has some vibrant colors with worn areas that offer a more broken-in style.

12. Vintage-Style Persian Rug

My personal favorite of the three I have here, this rug has a beautiful pattern and slightly more subtle colors. It’s a printed rug, but looks very realistic in person. Note that you’ll want a thicker rug pad for this to add cushion since it’s on the thin side.

13. Rust Tribal Medallion Rug

This rug has become the darling of Instagram, and for good reason! It’s like a magic rug, fitting in with SO many styles and colors. The colors and pattern make it a busier rug, so you’ll want to let it be the main star of the show in your room.

So there you have it! The most popular pieces according to YOU for 2020. Did any of your favorites make the list? Did anything catch your eye for your home? Let me know in the comments!
